Our fearless leader, Mike Benner, is moving on to greener pastures (literally, to North Carolina) and two of the Downtown Chandler Community Partnership staff have volunteered to take over the initiative.
Selena Larson and Allie Davis of the DCCP have taken the reins and are planning some fun, educational projects that kids can’t learn in a traditional educational atmosphere. The first class, Electrolysis, will show students how it’s possible to separate hydrogen and oxygen to power different objects. Join us on August 25 at 2 p.m. as GangplankJr returns with a bang.
Classes will be hosted once a month with a variety of subjects including science, architecture, coding, videography, robotics and much more. Along with the monthly classes, we are hoping to reignite First Lego League and theDanger Scouts when we find qualified instructors to allow the kids to be dangerous outside the classroom.
Selena and Allie are very excited to get started on this program and learn right along with the students. What Mike developed was a tremendous educational supplement to traditional education, and gave kids the opportunity to learn, grow and make mistakes in a supportive, creative environment. We hope to continue his vision for GangplankJr and grow the program to encourage students from all over to participate in these great programs.
