Help Chandler firefighters save a life.
This past year Chandler firefighters responded to 7 drowning or near drowning incidents. All of these calls involved children. You can help prevent water related tragedies in our community.
Chandler firefighters are inviting residents to join them in a door-to-door walk through local neighborhoods. Volunteers will distribute water safety door hangers to promote the “Eye to Eye to Supervise” message. The goal is to educate everyone about the importance of direct and constant adult supervision of children around water.
The Fire Department’s 2014 drowning prevention walk will be held on Saturday, March 29. Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. at Desert Oasis Aquatic Center, 1400 W. Summit Pl. At that time, Fire Department staff will assign specific neighborhoods to small groups of volunteers and provide maps and other materials. Participants will then walk their assigned route and leave a printed message at every home. The time commitment is 1-2 hours.
The Drowning Prevention Walk and other water awareness activities are making a very real difference in Chandler. Over the past three years, the number of drowning or near drowning incidents in Chandler has been reduced by more than 50 percent. Please consider being part of this very worthwhile effort.
To volunteer, please call 480-782-2175 or 480-782-2124 prior to March 30.
