Gangplank RVA: Our Story

City: Richmond, Virginia (USA)

Gangplank RVA is locally known as, “The Community Center for Entrepreneurs by Entrepreneurs.” It is co-working in RVA with much more collaboration.

Speaking of collaboration, be sure to download this outstanding report put together by our friends at RVA Works (formerly AdvanTech) - New Business Support Services  and take a look at this map of the Richmond entrepreneurial ecosystem from our friends at VCU Squared.

If you’re interested in starting or growing a business, or you simply want to be part of the RVA entrepreneurial renaissance, it’s important to get out and connect with resources and experts in the community – and Gangplank RVA is an integral part of that community.

Gangplank RVA began as “Gangplank Henrico” in January, 2012, as a new Gangplank local community in the old Innsbrook library. The Employment Transition Center (of Henrico County), in cooperation with the Career Prospectors Group, graciously donated some space to get us started in what we called a “free co-working space” just west of Richmond, Virginia. At the end of July, 2012, the physical location was closed and Gangplank Henrico effectively went “dark” for a few months. We were down, but not out. Henrico County economic development was not able to help us any longer (they had other priorities).

In January, 2013, a local painting company (89 Paint) stepped up and offered us a small office on the second floor of their space in downtown Richmond. Gangplank RVA was “born” (see more about the “RVA” brand in our FAQ below).
